Frequently Asked Questions

Is partial knee replacement a good idea?

Partial knee replacement has the advantage of preserving knee range of motion and knee function at a higher rate, as it preserves knee tissue and bone, compared to total knee replacement. Therefore, if the patient’s disability or discomfort can be ameliorated by partial knee replacement, the preference and satisfaction rate for this procedure is higher.

How long is recovery from partial knee replacement?

After a few weeks of surgery, you can walk without assistive equipment such as a cane or walker and usually return to your daily activities within three to six weeks.

What is the success rate of partial knee replacement?

Scientific studies, in which the postoperative 10-year period was followed, concluded that more than 90 percent (about 95%) of partial knee replacement surgeries were successful.

What can I expect after a partial knee replacement?

There may be mild pain immediately after the operation and swelling that will last for a few weeks may be observed. Although the patient should be able to start walking without the need for assistive equipment 1-2 weeks after the surgery, it will take 6 months for the knee to fully heal. Receiving physical rehabilitation support during this period will provide a healthier recovery process.
