Frequently Asked Questions

Do tonsils grow back?

During a tonsillectomy, most of the tonsils are removed. However, the tonsils can sometimes regenerate (and grow back) because some tissue often remains. Although it may not grow to full or original size.

How long is tonsil surgery?

Generally, it takes about 20-30 minutes, though it can take a little longer.

Why do people get tonsils removed?

There are two main reasons for having tonsillectomy. You have chronic sleep apnea or you have snoring that interferes with sleep. You have recurrent tonsillitis (inflammation of the tonsils) due to streptococcus or other infection.

How painful is getting tonsils removed?

Tonsillectomy causes mild to moderate pain in most people for the first two days after the surgery. On the third day, the pain may begin to subside.

Cautıons

*You will need to stop taking anti-inflammatory medicines (aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen etc.) two weeks before your surgery. Drugs of this kind can increase your risk of bleeding during and after your surgery. You should let your doctor know about any medications, herbs, or vitamins you’re taking. *You’ll also need to fast after midnight before your tonsillectomy. This means you shouldn’t drink or eat. An empty stomach reduces the risk of feeling nauseous from the anesthetic. *Sip water or eat ice pops to stay hydrated without hurting your throat. Warm, clear broth and applesauce are ideal food choices during early recovery. You can add ice cream, pudding, oatmeal, and other soft foods after a couple days. Try not to eat anything hard, crunchy, or spicy for several days after a tonsillectomy. *Snoring for the first two weeks after the procedure is normal and expected. Call your doctor if you have trouble breathing after the first two weeks. *It is very important that you avoid travel, flying, gym and strenuous activities for 2 weeks after surgery.

2 days hospitalisation is needed and avoid airplane travel for a week after surgery.
